We developed a Sign Language Translation App for our 3rd Year Software Engineering Project. We developed a machine learning–based application that translates sign language gestures into text and speech in real time. The system uses computer vision and deep learning models (CNN + LSTM) to recognize hand signs and convert them into meaningful sentences, which are then converted to voice output using text-to-speech technology. The App is designed to bridge the communication gap between hearing-impaired and non-signing individuals, enhancing accessibility and inclusion through AI-driven translation.
I worked on weekends as a part-time (student) waiter/runner at a local pub and grill
Designed, developed, and prototyped a functional robotic hand capable of demonstrating basic sign language gestures. Created detailed 3D models using CAD software and produced physical components through 3D printing. Programmed and integrated servo motor systems to enable precise finger and wrist movements. Built multiple working prototypes for use in university exhibitions, demonstrations, and promotional events. Collaborated with stakeholders to ensure the final product met both functional and presentation requirements, while applying iterative design and problem-solving techniques to improve performance, durability, and realism. Technologies & Skills: Arduino, Servo Motor Control, 3D Printing, CAD Design, Prototyping, Embedded Systems
I was required to keep track of orders and payments of bills of clients. I had to make sure that the orders are correctly billed, and the correct amount is received as payment.
Time Management and Prioritizing of tasks effectively is important as a waiter/runner to keep the customer happy by providing a fast, efficient and professional service. Making sure that there is stock available and packed in fridges to prevent delays and unhappy customers. (See a need, fill a need.)
Quickly resolving conflicts, by identifying what the problem might be (shortages, or personnel issues). Provide a solution that is acceptable for all parties. Anticipating potential disruptions and planning accordingly.
I have experience in dealing with difficult or unhappy customers and have learned how to deal with it in a fast and professional manner.
I can communicate easily and efficiently with clients from different cultures and languages. I have learned how to work and communicate with people with different personalities and attitudes.
